Some of you may not know this but I am an avid gardener. I love it. I love getting my hands dirty. I have been in my house for 15 years so my gardens have had a chance to grow and mature however it started out as an overgrown mess when I first moved in. It was so bad that we just ripped everything out and started from scratch.
Well that can be expensive so the frugal person that I am, I always try to find a great deal. One of the places I get my plants & flowers is Spring Hill Nurseries. I like them because you can buy smaller plants plus, this time of year is a great time to order because they have their $20 off $50 sale. They ship the plants to you when it is time to plant in your area so you don’t have to worry about getting anything too early to go in the ground. You can request a catalog and you’ll always be informed of their sales.
For those that live in NJ there is also a great nursery called Cicconi Farms located in Jackson that is definitely worth checking out. Also, don’t forget Home Depot or Lowes. They carry some of your basic plants at very good prices. If you join Home Depot Garden Club you get coupons in the mail as well. This past spring I got a BOGO vegetable plant coupon that came in handy. And your local supermarkets too, you can get some good prices on some of the basic perennials or annuals.
So shop around and find the best deals. And don’t feel like you have to buy larger plants. Starting your plants off small is so much more cost effective then spending money on larger ones. Besides, they grow so quickly that your gardens will be billowing over in no time. And once they get bigger you can separate most perennials to add them to other parts of your garden. And those are free!
So, take a walk through my garden. Maybe, at least, it will shed away those winter blues and get you thinking of spring.
Note: If you click on each picture you can get a close up view of the gardens. Enjoy!
