Allergy Alert Recall on Undeclared Peanut Protein

In late 2014, Adams Flavors, Foods & Ingredients issued an allergy alert in their cumin products because they may contain undeclared peanut protein. Adams Ground Cumin, Adams Chili Powder Blends, Adams Menudo Seasoning, Adams Jamaican Jerk Seasoning, Adams Brisket Rub, Adams Multi Seasoning, Adams Pinto Bean Seasoning, Adams Reserve Southwestern Rub, Earl Campbell Rib Rub were distributed nationwide and have been recalled due to possibly being contaminated with peanut allergens.

A few days later Adams Flavors, Foods & Ingredients issued another allergy alert on their Panko Bread Crumbs, since these products contained the cumin that was initially recalled.

Now in 2015, various companies have been recalling products due to undeclared peanut protein. We don’t know if all of these products are related to the Adams Flavors, Foods & Ingredients recall or not, as the reports with the FDA and the USDA are not linking the Adams’ products.  Cumin is not mentioned as the ingredient causing the recall in all of the reports.  The majority of the FDA reports state:

“We were notified by one of our third party suppliers that one of the spice ingredients purchased contains peanut proteins, an allergen which is not declared on the products’ ingredient statement.”

Here is a list of some of the recent recalls due to undeclared peanut protein:

We have listed reports that are on the USDA and the FDA website.
