Lidl Best Market
Lidl US has started making moves to plant itself right in the middle of NY/NJ. They plan to buy 27 Best Market Supermarkets in NY & NY.
What is Happening?
The Best Market Stores acquired by Lidl US will change their banners to read Lidl. This firmly sets them up nicely in the NorthEast where they currently have just 3 stores in NJ. Lidl operates 59 stores in Virginia, NC, SC, Georgia, Maryland, Delaware and NJ in total.
Lidl US CEO Johannes Fieber stated: “Best Market has played an enormously positive role in the area, and we look forward to working closely with Best Market employees to build on that success. We are excited to expand into many great communities on Long Island and across the New York City area and introduce more customers to our simple and efficient approach to grocery shopping, which will mean high quality and huge savings for more shoppers.”
There is currently no timeline available but the remodeling process is set to begin in the next year. After acquisition is finished all Best Market Employees will have jobs with Lidl US which is great to hear!
Why Best Market Stores?
Lidl US originally planned to have over 100 stores open on the east cost by the end of Summer 2018. Due to a change in real estate strategy they decided to include smaller stores and leased sites rather than just build and own sites. This made Best Market a great fit with the current locations they have.
