Even More Ways to Save
Zero to Stockpile
All I can say is….I’M BACK!! And it feels so good!
Yep, finally at week 10, I’m 100% back to where I was for the last 10 years and that is super low out of pocket shopping trips where I mix freebies, super low items we use and stock up prices on products I need to replenish or at to our stockpile.
These are the shopping trips that look so lopsided to the non couponer. When shoppers that are interested in learning how to save see these types of trips, week after week, they automatically assume that we just shop for stuff we don’t really need or can actually eat. But, as you have been able to see through my last 10 weeks of following me on this journey, that is not how it works.
To quickly recap, weeks one through four, I actually didn’t focus as much on the freebies (coupon type deals at stores like CVS, etc) because I focused in on sales on food items I badly needed. Once I had that somewhat under control, I started directing my attention, time and money to the coupon deals.
And here we are at week 10 and I couldn’t be happier to be completely back.
This week I spent just under $37 for the entire week which included stocking up on paper plates, all the meat for our St Patrick’s Day/Pat’s Bday dinner, replenishing my laundry detergent stockpile, deodorant stockpile and more.
I’ve always said 12 weeks was necessary to fully stock your stockpile with the things you need and that is also proving to be true as I still need the following:
- Canned Tuna
- Napkins
- Tomato Paste
- Tomato Sauce
- Foil
- Band-Aids (possibly next week)
- Dental Floss
If you haven’t followed my Zero to Stockpile Challenge journey from the beginning be sure to check it out. You can start in whenever you want to.
What I Gave Up
I’m happy to report that, once again, there is nothing we needed to give up.
How I Shopped
Another super easy week of shopping for me. I shopped on Monday at ShopRite, Aldi, Rite Aid and CVS. and Target. Then I stopped back into ShopRite and Costco later in the week. Remember, that might seem like a lot of store to some of you but, I go in with a list and my coupons all prepare and it takes me on 15 minutes to shop at most stores. Probably ShopRite (my main grocery store) takes me a little bit longer at about 30 minutes.
I can shop four stores, including travel time to and from the stores, in less time then it used to take me to do my weekly grocery shopping at just one store (pre-couponing).
My Plan for Next Week
First off, I’ll be doing the Buy $100 in gift cards and get $20 in free groceries at ShopRite. Duh! You all know I jump on these whenever they are available. I take my budget from whatever store I’m buying the gift card for. Could be my home repair budget, gift giving budget, clothing budget or more. I use that money to buy the gift card (remember, I would have been spending that money in cash anyway) and then I get free money to use on my groceries. Win Win.
I’m hoping to hit a couple of my, need to stock up on, items next week and it looks like I may be getting some cereal to replenish my stockpile.
I’ll poke around with some of the drugstore deals to roll my rewards.
Now It’s Your Turn
So, now it’s your turn. How did your week go? Did you have goals you wanted to reach? Did you reach them? Did you stock up on some important items your family needs? Did you challenge yourself with any new challenges or any of the ones I posted during the past two weeks?
