Over a Ton of Perdue Sausages Recalled
Over the weekend, Perdue Foods LLC issued a recall for over 2,000 pounds of its Harvestland Chicken sausage. After multiple complaints about blue plastic pieces in the product, Perdue, along with the USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS), issued this voluntary recall. According to the company, only one product is affected – Perdue Harvestland Organic Italian Chicken Sausage.
According to company spokesman and Vice President, Jeff Shaw, the plastic material comes from a pair of safety goggles that accidentally got into the raw material. In the company’s official statement, he explains that:
“This would have resulted in a minimal amount of consumer packages potentially containing sausages with the plastic. However, out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to recall all packages of sausages produced in the same product run.”
