Nature Made Recall
Pharmavite LLC, the parent company of Nature Made announced a recall of specific lots of vitamins and supplements yesterday. The recall, which is being issued “out of an abundance of caution,” is due to incomplete testing for two organisms: Salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus.
At this time, no illnesses related to the products have been reported.

Information about Salmonella and Staphococcus aureus
The two organisms which may be present in these supplements are Salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus or Staph.
Salmonella is an organism which causes infections that can be fatal in the immune compromised as well as young children and older adults. The symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include headache, stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. In severe cases, the organism can enter the blood stream and cause endocarditis, arterial infections, and even arthritis.
Staph is a toxin that cases food poisoning. Symptoms of staph poisoning include a rapid onset of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, chichis often severe and accompanied by stomach pain and cramping. More severe infections can also cause headaches, rapid or irregular pulse rates, muscle cramping and blood pressure changes.
