Britax Recalls Some of Its B-Safe 35 Car Seats Due to Weak Handle That May Break

Britax Child Safety, Inc. which sells child safety restraint systems in the United States, Canada, and Mexico has recently announced a massive recall of its B-Safe 35 and B-Safe 35 Elite car seats due to a weakened carry handle. The handles, which have been reported to crack, can potentially break, which presents a safety risk to infants who may be injured if dropped as a result.

There are no risks to the child when strapped into the seat or riding in a car or stroller.

This recall includes a series of B-Safe 35 seats manufactured between October 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015. The company reports that they sold which more than 71,000 of these seats throughout North America. The seats in question include a variety of model numbers and colors, including child safety seats purchased as part of the larger B-Safe travel systems.

Parents and caregivers who own Britax B-Safe 35 and B-Safe 35 Elite seats should check the model number, serial number and date of manufacture of their seat according to the diagrams provided by Britax, here [https://us.britax.com/service-support/recall-sites/bsafe-35-recall/]

Consumers who own one of these affect seats do not need to return them. If they registered their product with Britax, thy will automatically receive a repair kit which includes a carry handle bracket to reinforce the weakened part of the handle. In addition, caregivers should avoid carrying the car seat by its handle until the reinforcement kit is attached. Instead, simply use two hands to carry the seat by its base.
