Target to Offer Expanded Online Price Matching

October 1 may not be the official start of the holiday season, but don’t tell that to Target. In a world where the lines of retail blur between physical stores and online sales, Target, a giant in both realms, has come out of the gate ready to fight a month ahead of the major holiday season push.

As of Thursday, October 1, 2015, Target and Target.com will expand its price matching policy in the digital realm specifically, expanding the number of online retailers included in their policy and lengthening the amount of time buyers have to request a price match on an online purchase.

The list of Target’s competitors included in the new price match policy has a number of online-only retailers like Amazon.com and NewEgg.com as well as exclusive, membership-only retailers like Costco and Sam’s Club. In addition, a number of companies like CVS and Ulta Beauty who aren’t generally regarded as one of Target’s direct competitors, are also added to the mix.

In addition, the length of time that buyers have to price match their online orders has doubled to 14 days. This will be especially helpful as the holiday sales season kicks off and more and more retailers try to outdo one another and themselves with sales as the season wears on.

The new Target price match policy is permanent, but its timing is of particular note since it comes at the outset of what analysts believe will be a bruising holiday sales season. While the prediction is that overall sales numbers will climb between 2-4% over last year, the increased price consciousness of many buyers has retailers concerned.

Positioning itself against major online retailers like Amazon puts Target in the position to capture more of the price-conscious crowd and will certainly be something we here at Living Rich with Coupons will take advantage of and keep in mind as we make holiday sales recommendations.
