Huggies Wipes with Glass Pieces
Parents are concerned about sharp fragments they find in Huggies wipes, while the company assures consumers the particles are harmless. Huggies is owned by Kimberly-Clark.
Melissa Estrella, a mother in Camarillo, California, posted a video to Facebook on Thursday, showing what she found in the wipes. Estrella calls it “glass” in the video.
“If you can see all of this stuff shining on the wipes, that is all glass,” she said in the video. “All we have to do is wipe and glass comes right off.”
Huggies released a statement on their Facebook page Thursday evening. Their statement reads:
Hello Huggies Parents,
As some of you may have heard, a concern about our wipes was raised recently on Facebook. We take any concerns about our products very seriously and we are working directly with this parent to learn more about what happened and how we can help. Nothing is more important than the safety of the little ones who use our products.
Families put their trust in Huggies wipes every day, and all of our Huggies products have been thoroughly evaluated to ensure they are safe. In addition, we have stringent quality controls in place, and no glass is used during the manufacture of our wipes. As parents ourselves, we know you may have additional questions or concerns. Please don’t hesitate to contact us at 1-888-485-6839.”
“While this condition is not normal, it does happen infrequently during the manufacturing process,” reads the complete statement. “When combined, the fibers in our wipes have on occasion created shiny particles, similar to what was found by this parent.”
Huggies addressed the issue in the Frequently Asked Questions page of the website.
The company has not recalled the product, but urges customers with concerns to call its consumer care team at 1-888-485-6839 or visit its contact page.
