Britax Car Seat Recall

Britax has recalled 37 models of children’s car seats.  Advocate ClickTight, Boulevard ClickTight, and Marathon ClickTight manufactured between Aug. 1, 2014, and July 29, 2015 are included in the recall. To find out if your car seat is recalled, click here.  Have the car seat in front of you, since you will need to type in numbers from the label.

The car seats are being recalled due to a potential safety defect that could prevent the harnesses from locking.   The defective harness adjuster button stays in the “release” position when the harness is tightened. A video of the defect is here.

So far, no one has reported an injury from the defect.

A Consumer Reports safety notice first  alerted consumers. Britax’s announcement said it had “confirmed the performance” of ClickTight seats with NHTSA. Britax emailed all registered seat owners warning them of the potential danger.  If you own a Britax, and have not registered the seat, or need to verify an existing registration, click here, or contact Britax customer service toll-free at 1-888-427-4829 (choose option 3).

If your car seat is affected, Britax will mail a free remedy kit within 7-10 business days. The remedy kit includes one non-toxic food-grade lubricant, a label indicating that the remedy has been completed, as well as an instruction sheet for applying the lubricant to the harness adjuster button.

You can get additional information on the recall on this Britax web page, by emailing [email protected] or phoning 1 (888) 427-4829.   To find out the Date of Manufacture (DOM) of your carseat before you call, look under the car seat cover to the right of the “ClickTight” dial.
