Saturday 4/25/15:
Garden Exploration Saturdays – Tree Celebration
Cost: $5 per child ages 4 & up; $10 per family (2 or more children)
Description: Looking for something to do on a Saturday morning? Come to Van Vleck and visit our Education Center anytime between 10 am to 1:00 pm. An environmental educator will discuss various topics relating to nature in and around the gardens. A simple craft will be offered, as well as supplies for a self-guided scavenger hunt on the property. Everything you need to enjoy quality time with your family is here for you. Activities are designed for children ages 4 and up; however, all are welcome. All children must be supervised by an adult. Rain or shine.

41st Annual New Jersey Folk Festival
Cost: FREE
Description: The 41st Annual New Jersey Folk Festival is celebrating maritime folk life. We will present the traditional cultural expressions of such groups as seafarers, fishermen, longshoremen, boat builders, and seafood processors. Maritime folklore encompasses a wide range of genres, including custom and ritual, legend, narrative, language, jargon, and song, as well as folklife forms such as technical skill, foodways, and material culture. A special focus of this year’s festival will be revival performances of sea shanties. These were the work songs of the square-rigger days. We offer four stages of music, dance, workshops, and jam sessions, as well as a wide array of food vendors, crafters, a heritage area, children’s activities & games, pony rides & more! Admission is FREE, rain or shine.

Sunday 4/26/15:
Earth Day at Appel Farm
Cost: FREE
Description: Appel Farm Arts & Music Center invites the community to a fun-filled day of Earth Day-themed art projects, music and food on Sunday, April 26, 2015. Enjoy a healthy complimentary lunch from 12-1 pm. Local musician Bo Rains, and her band The Killer Beez, will perform through the afternoon. Families can drop in to participate in a variety of fun arts and outdoor activities – Learn how to line dance, recycle materials to make new instruments to create a family band and t-shirt art from your old shirts; learn traditional paper making technique to make one-of-a-kind decorative papers; create colorful planters from recycled food cans and learn how to use the sun for unique printing art. Join the Girl Scouts at 1:15 pm as they celebrate earning their Silver Award project with a special ribbon cutting ceremony. Check out the new life-size chessboard, surrounding garden and new dance studio cubbies that they created for us.

Adorno Fathers Springtime Fair

Description: Friends of the Adornos will be holding their Annual Spring Fair on April 26, 2014 (rain date 5/3/14). The fair will be on the grounds of the Adorno Fathers on 575 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ. JC Promotions is now producing this event, which has been running for decades, will offer all the delicious home-made foods that the Friends of the Adornos serve, top-notch vendors and great bargains. There is a home improvement section that features vendors specializing in roofing, siding, additions, basements, bathroom remodeling, cabinets, windows, gutters, and more. We are expecting 150+ exhibitors selling everything from jewelry, clothing, sports collectibles, suncatchers, handbags & wallets, hand crafted gifts, nuts, pickles & dried fruits, giftware, stone mountains tee shirts, toys, religious jewelry, prepackaged candy, hand crafted items, collectibles & antiques, socks for all ages, bric a brac and so much more! Appraiser Vic LoBue from Vic’s Collector’s Shop will be available to appraise your Coins – Stamps – Toys – Comics – Currency – Sport Cards. This is a FREE service that he performs at this event. Come hungry because that’s the best part…you can have sausage & peppers, ziti and meatballs, pizza, hot dogs, burgers, French Fries, lemon ice, ice cream, zeppoli’s and more. There is ample free parking, free admission, no pets PLEASE.
