Celebrate Mom’s All Month Long
I just celebrated my THIRD Mother’s Day yesterday! For me, that’s hard to believe. In my head I’m still a naive college student with no major responsibilities. Fast forward a handful of years and I’m a married woman and mom of TWO beautiful children – Annabelle (2 years old) and Asher (6 months old). I’m pushing 30. I raked the leaves and watched my hubby mow the lawn of our very first and completely modest starter home yesterday. Wow – it’s been hitting me lately that I’m totally in a different stage of life now! I have to remind myself to get out of the mindset that I’m still a young twenty something and remember my new role as a wife and working mom. Life is changing for sure but I love the changes and the joy I’m experiencing in these new roles I’ve been awarded.
With this new role as “mom” has come many, many sleepless nights, stress over wondering if what I’m doing is right, much comparing myself to other “better” moms, tears when the kids get sick, countless hours trying to find the best deals on diapers, wipes, etc…the list goes on! Of course with the challenges comes utter joy! I just stop and look at my children sometimes and feel overflowed with love. The things that come out of Annabelle’s mouth as she learns to talk, the giant hugs and wet kisses she gives, the giggles Asher dispenses (even after he won’t sleep through the night) or how he loves to fall asleep in his father’s arms – the amount of joy I receive in being a mom totally outweighs the work it takes to care for my children.
Okay I’ll stop with the cliche sentimental sayings (although I mean them wholeheartedly) and get to the point – being a mom is THE hardest job in the world and in my opinion and extremely sacrificial. As a mom, you’re always putting the needs of others before your own. I think that makes moms true superheros! So why do we only celebrate mothers ONE day a year!?
