American Ballet Theatre presents its annual eight-week season of performances at the Metropolitan Opera House. Since 1940, American Ballet Theatre has performed in the greatest venues around the world, creating a tradition of passion, innovation and athleticism that consistently awes ballet lovers old and new. This spring, ABT presents two magical tales of romance. In Sylvia, Sir Frederick Ashton’s mythological love story, the huntress Sylvia is united with her true love through the divine intervention of Eros. The score by Leo Delibes was a favorite of Tchaikovsky’s, and ABT’s production was declared an “irresistible hit” by The New York Times. The season continues with the timeless tale of The Sleeping Beauty. This treasured fairy tale of a sleeping princess rescued by a daring prince and awakened with a kiss inspires love at first sight from its audiences.
