Reader Shopping Trips: ShopRite Triple Coupons!

Wow! Todd did an awesome job at the ShopRite Triple Coupon Event at the Warminster, PA store!  He drove all the way from Jersey City, NJ to take advantage of this store tripling coupons! Now that’s an extreme couponer if you ask me.  He definitely made his trip out there worth it, with a 90% savings!  Way to go, Todd!

Note from Cindy:  For those that are wondering, he was already out in the area when he decided to tack on this trip to ShopRite 😉

Here’s what he had to say:

For the sake of making this a bit easier on me I’m going to do this all as one transaction but it was actually done in three.  We did not clear any shelves at all – if anything, they were WONDERFULLY overstocked on everything! Our cashier was AWESOME – Thanks Ashley!

    That’s Awesome!!!!!

  2. Bernell says:

    Way to go!!!
I’ve been there a few times this week, and I must say….they are well stocked with everything…..I even found the chinet color plates for $1.19……
U also gave me some great ideas…..

    1. Todd says:

🙂 happy my trip helped you. Make sure you leave stuff for our second trip there…hahahaha

    2. Cindy says:

And, that is exactly why his trip was chosen. To give those that want to take advantage of the triples, some great ideas:)

  3. kim says:

    Is it over this event?

  4. Amanda says:

I hate to be Debbie Downer here, but that’s a 1 hr 40 min drive. How much did you spend on gas? Probably at least $40, so you didn’t really save much at all!

    1. Jen From Philly says:

He actually drives once a month (or something like that) a half hour from the warminster store, so it really was only 30 minutes out of the way and i’m sure well worth it 🙂

    2. Cindy says:

Well as I have learned a long time ago, it’s hard to judge someone if you have no idea about them. Possibly he works near there, possibly visiting relatives or maybe went with a group of people that split the gas and tolls.

      1. Todd says:

Jen from Philly and cindy are absolutley CORRECT! 🙂

      2. Amanda says:

I’m not going to speak for anyone else, although some might share my sentiments. I’m not saying you CAN’T do what Todd did or that you shouldn’t. I’m just saying that if the point of couponing is to save every penny you can (and yes, to have fun too!), then it’s a waste of money to drive far out of your way to do it. Yes, if you already have to make that trip anyway, then it’s worth it. My friends and family always ask me if it’s worth me stopping at so many stores on my way home from work. Some of them I literally have to drive right by, so I don’t think it’s a problem stopping there (it’s just taking up my time, which I do need to learn to manage better…I can get stuck in a CVS for half an hour!). However, there are some store like Target that I have to drive (a little) out of my way for. So then I wonder, if I only end up buying a couple things (which I sometimes do), did I just waste more gas and time than was worth it?

    3. nuri says:

      Amanda,

I was also very skeptical about a 75 mile drive just for tripled coupons.
so i went through the list, and added up all the money he saved over both a regular double store and a full double store of his coupons
i came up with $24.90 saved over a fully doubling store (standard in North Jersey) and $40.20 over a regular double store,

if 30 min out of the way is 30 miles in each direction, id say it was basically a break even between the money saved in food, and the wear and tear (guesstimated at .50 cents/mile and 60 miles = 30 bucks)

      1. Cindy says:

Nuri if you had to spend that much just to go shop there I wouldn’t have gone either but apparently that was not the case for this shopper. I wish they would bring them to North Jersey but I’m not holding my breath 🙂

  5. Ana says:

when did u do this trip?

    1. Todd says:

This was just done on Wednesday.

  6. melissa says:

i wish our shop right had the triple coupon event. gotta love NY

    1. Denise Beals says:

I wish we had a Shop Right near me!!

  7. A.R says:

Wow.. is there any other SR that triples coupon?? TIA..

  8. renee says:

When does this event end?I am not too far from there but it might be worth a trip after seeing this brag!!!

    1. Toekneeface says:

      It ends June 23

  9. Renata Lavach-Savy says:

Like another poster said, driving almost 2 hours is not cost effective. That’s easily $10 in tolls EACH way on the NJ Turnpike. On top of the gas, which would vary by car, but would be at least $50 in my small car. I do hope it’s true that for whatever reason this shopper has to make this trip anyway, regardless of the store. If not, that is just over the top.

    1. Todd says:

      Hey Renata:
The tolls were under 3.00 round trip so i’m not sure how you would have gone, but its not the way we went. My shopping buddies car fills up just under 40.00. And as others have said – we were in PA already (which is a monthly trip we make) so to drive the extra 21 miles to the store it was WELL WORTH IT!!! 🙂

  10. Sarah says:

This store is only 30-40 minutes from me. If anyone else has gone can you share some of the deals you found? I am debating about whether or not to make a trip there. It sounds like the store is very coupon friendly. It might be worth the drive if I can find enough deals.

    1. Todd says:

      Totally worth the trip Sarah!!!

  11. Todd says:

    Hey everyone!!!
Yes – what was said is very true. My shopping buddy needs to go to PA about once a month so we were only 21 miles from Warminster, PA and figured we had to make the trip. We are actually preparing for another trip because we were told this is going on till June 23rd.
BTW – the tolls are very minimal (under 3.00 round trip) and since we only had to go an extra 21 miles, which is only about 1 gallon of gas, this trip was VERY worth it.

    1. Cindy says:

      🙂

          agreed!!!

All I wanna kno is when is this event over? Will someone please tell me

        1. Anonymous says:

          6/23

    2. Anonymous says:

a question about the Mrs. cubbinson’s croutons coupon, is it the one that came out 2 weeks ago in the inserts? I thought it was a DND 9? Does it triple?

    3. Ahuva says:

      Super job!
Did they double the $1 coupons too? Their ad says up to $0.99…..

      1. Toekneeface says:

This is the Shop Rite I normally shop at since it is 4 miles from home. They do not double $1.00, only up to .99. If you use a lot of printables they look a little closely.

  12. Tara says:

if you were in Pa then the trip makes sense but if you were going from Jersey City to Warminster Pa…it would be crazy being its a 81miles & the NJTP would be about $11.00 tolls one way! Why cant all Shop Rites triple!????

  13. Misally says:

    awesome trip todd! congrats!

  14. Kabby says:

Todd you did a great job…thank you for taking the time to post your shopping trip including the detailed break down. It is great that most couponers like to share with other couponers.

  15. Melissa says:

How do i find out what shoprites are tripeling?

  16. desiree says:

So excited for this too! My husbands aunt lives in the area and has been bugging us to come up and go swimming. Even though it’s an hour drive I figured if we were going anyway to visit I might as well make the most of it and stop at the store while I’m there:) Plus the husband and 3
kids will be swimming so worth the trip just go shopping by MYSELF!!!

  17. Mary says:

Great Job Todd! Thanks for posting.

The one thing that cracks me up about this is the naysayers. You don’t have to explain why you did it. It really doesn’t matter. You love couponing and you had a great day out.

Maybe some others need to take this into consideration. Pack up the family or friends and make a day out of it. Stop for a picnic. Enjoy some family or friend time together. It would be amazing the conversations you can have when you actually talk to people instead of texting all time. Remember way back when, when you actually answered the phone and recognized someones voice. Those were the days. A road trip is like laughter, it can cure many things.

    1. Cindy says:

I wish I had like buttons on these comments 🙂

    2. Nuri says:

      Mary,

as one of the naysayers you are probably referring to, i don’t think its wrong to question if something is fiscally sound. after all, the reason we coupon is because it saves us money right?

if there were 2 identical products (ignoring prouct quality biases) one was 4 dollars with a 1 dollar off coupon, and the other was 2.50, you would by the 2.50 one, because whats important is that at the end of the day, you spent less for the same item.

the same rigor should be used for judging gas and time spent.

I admit that there are times when i go chasing a deal to 2 or 3 stores, and end up spending what i save on gas. I have tried to stop doing this.

      1. Sebsa says:

Judging gas and time spent is not the same as judging the price of a product. We don’t know the motivation or reasoning behind a person’s decision to go one place or another (well, we do in this case because poor Todd has explained it over and over again). Some people will drive a little farther to go to a more coupon friendly store…or a cleaner store…or a store with better stock…or a nice bathroom…or nice employees. We can’t put a price tag on those type of things because we don’t know the reasoning behind it and that reasoning is individual anyway. For all we know, Todd just bought a brand new Ferrari with all of his coupon savings and wanted to test it out on the open road.

I think Todd not only did a great job planning a stellar shopping trip, but he was also selfless in his desire to share some great deals with other couponers. The time he took to write up this trip and submit it to Cindy has more value to all of us then whether or not he spent XYZ in gas and tolls. And besides, he probably used gas cards from CVS to fill up his car… : )

        Great job Todd!

    3. Cynthia F says:

      *LIKE* 🙂

  18. jenny says:

You did a great job! I would drive that far for triple coupons and find something to do in the area to make it a daycation!

  19. c says:

i have shopped here and can say that the triple coupons are awesome, but you MUST get a nice cashier! if not, you will not have a great experience.
i haven’t been there past the first day of a sale, so i can’t say much about the stock.
also, on the first day of sale, this place is PACKED – even at 7:30 a.m.!
guess the triples are too tempting to stay in bed! :O)

  20. Chris says:

Nice trip. Live around the block from there and just got back. So you were the one who got all the wipes. lol. I was wondering why they are doing 6 wks of tripling. While reading the Intelligencer today I found out. In the help wanted section there is an add for cashiers and clerks for a new Weis that is being opened up in our area. Isn’t competition a wonderful thing.

    1. Todd says:

chris – there is only one package of pampers wipes that we got and two wet ones so it wasnt me…lol

      1. Chris says:

Have plenty of time to get some. I’m there almost every day. In the past I have never been able to find the Kleenex hand towels, so I stopped looking. Did you find them with reg. kleenex? Thanks

        1. Todd says:

They were by the paper towels Chris…hope you find them!!! 🙂

        2. Toekneeface says:

Chris , the Kleenex towels & with the paper towels. Where are they opening the Weis?

          1. Chris says:

Thank you both, I’ll look for them tomorrow morning. In todays Intelligencer in the classifieds on the first page the ad says that interviews for cashiers and clerks will take place at Hampton Inn, 1570 Easton Rd., Warrington, PA. Ad doesn’t say where it will be . My guess is the old Pathmark on County Line Rd.

            1. Toekneeface says:

You know, I passed there the other day & had the sense something was going in there.

  21. Todd says:

You are right – I shouldn’t have to justify my trip but I will do it this last time. First, i’ll say THANK YOU to all those who supported this shopping trip post.

We make a trip to PA just about every 4 – 6 weeks so we were only 21 miles from Shoprite in Warminster so this trip was totally worth it. I can’t believe how many people want to ruin this wonderful forum we have to share our experiences so that others might be able to take advantage of it. It only cost us maybe 4.00 in gas to get there (21 miles from where we were) and there was no extra tolls involved.
Yes – we all want to save money, thats why we follow Cindy, but you also have to admit, the thrill of saving 89.9% can totally outweigh the few extra dollars we spent to get there!

With that being said…thanks again to all the people who enjoyed seeing this trip. Happy savings to ALL!!!

    1. jenny says:

I don’t think you need to justify your rationale. I think you did a great job. Its called jealousy…its a sickness and I hope they all get well soon.
Once again, awesome job!!!! Totally inspiring! We had triple coupons in November here in NY and it was so fun!

      1. Amanda says:

I just want to say that I don’t think we are ruining this forum. We are just having a conversation. A very polite conversation, I might add. I have seen comments on posts that rip people to shreds, and we are not doing that here. In fact, I think the people who have been the most rude are the ones who don’t agree with the people, like me, who questioned the rationale of driving so far to coupon. Now that we understand you were already in the area, it makes more sense. And Jenny, I’m actually not jealous, as I do pretty well for myself with my couponing, thank you very much.

        1. Cynthia F says:

I agree with you about other posts, as long as we can have polite conversations it’s fine. We are not going to ALWAYS agree on everything! The fact that you can be mature and say you understand because he was in the area shows maturity and respect!

  22. Karl says:

    Hi everyone.
Great job to Todd. I’m sorry there are so many negative comments on here. Yes one aspect of couponing is saving money, however (and I’m sure many others on this site would agree with me) it can also be a fun hobby and, I know its cheesy, be something of an emotional high. I’m sure Todd saved some money, felt great about himself and had a fun day. Kuddos to Todd!

I’m thinking about heading out there next week. Can someone confirm that you can use Internet Printed coupons? Also does anyone know their hours? Thanks!

    1. Todd says:

thanks karl!!! they opened at 6am and yes – they did take internet coupons but our wonderful cashier (very coupon friendly) had to call the manager over cause they check EVERY printable to make sure they arent copied. (It wasn’t just us – there was managers/asst managers at lots of registers checking everyone’s coupons.

      1. Toekneeface says:

That happens to me. I had to switch out some Earthbound Farms once becasue they had the same numbers.

  23. Jennie says:

wow Todd good job I was playing with my fiance saying we should take the trip as well, we are from Jersey city too. I’m trying to get him into couponing

    1. Todd says:

Hey jennie…thanks for the support!! Where in JC are you? I’m in Downtown JC – not far from Grove. I’m always looking for fellow couponers locally. Message me @ Todd Couponer here on facebook! 🙂

  24. Michelle T. says:

Great trip, Todd! I agree, if you are going to be nearby, by all means, have fun! We live in NJ and have family in DE, so when we are visiting, we will sometimes enjoy some tax-free shopping 🙂 Of course, we are saving 7% tax and paying for gas, but we are there already anyway! I have to say that yes, couponing is my hobby, and it is something I like to do, it is NOT a waste of my time. There are far worse ways to spend your time LOL!

  25. shita says:

yes, they take internet coupons, but before the cashier scan it. he/she will have the manager look at them first. i haven’t had any problem.
    Hours: Mon-Fri 6am-12am
    Sat 6am-12am
    Sun 6am-10pm

  26. Nikki says:

    Fantastic!

  27. Anonymous says:

I think it is fantastic!!!!!!You continue to do what works for you…….

  28. Meg says:

I must say that shopping trip is wonderful, great job Todd!!!
As for getting there, it is personal. I am in Brooklyn, NY. Only store that doubles is Stop and Shop and driving anywhere whould make no sense. However if I would be there anyway, I would shop, why not.
Anyway, I think this entry is to show what Todd saved in a store, not how he got there and what he spend.
    Great job Todd!
Cindy, thank you for sharing this with us.

  29. Toekneeface says:

I do not live in anyone else’s pocket, I do not know what is going on with them. I have no right to judge where anyone goes to shop or why. It bothers me that others would defend their right to judge. Makes me think people will be discouraged from posting their great deals and then we will all suffer.
Thanks for sharing your great trip Todd. I hope when you come back in a few weeks if they are still triplng (til 6/23 ) you will share your next trip with us as well. Good job!

    1. Todd says:

      Thanks T K F!!!!
FYI – I/we will be back again for this event and I’ll for sure send it in to Cindy!!!

      1. Cynthia F says:

        I am so jealous!! LOL!

  30. Colleen says:

You did a great job, Todd. I wish I still lived closer to that area to take advantage of this awesome event! My store only regular doubles. A friend of mine lives around the corner, I might just have to go visit 😉

  31. Cynthia F says:

Way to go TODD!!!! I live in Old Bridge NJ and have thought about making the trip there myself BUT it is 62 miles from me and I don’t have couponing buddy (or 2) like I would like so we can take advantage of this together! If you want to go out there just for a day trip or if you were out there because you make the trip every month (a fact that some people seemed to ignore) it is your BUSINESS! You did a great job, saved money and had a great time doing it! Don’t let anyone ruin the good time you had (and high you got, lol) doing it! Good for you!

    1. Amanda says:

By the way, I was the first one to question him driving to PA, and when I did so, no one had yet said that he goes there once a month. It just looked like he drove 85 miles for a sale. And yes, I do agree that he did a great job!

      1. Cynthia F says:

Oh it was posted on Cindy’s blog when she posted it. Ok. Nice of you to say he did a great job! It’s nice when we can all be happy for and help each other out.

  32. Bree says:

Great job Todd! But I have one question …. Why would you drive so far?!?!

    I kid, I kid lol. 🙂

I have 3 SR stores within a 4-5 miles radius and the last triple coupon event was 5+ years ago. However I do have because because there will be a new one opening within a year that’ll be about 2 miles away! Hoping they’ll do something good to get shoppers in the door!

    1. Bree says:

      *hope

  33. Zosia says:

If anyone need and can use pampers wipes, i wish i have other stores than Rite Aid in the neighborhood- i can send it to you… And if i could get Similac coupons in exchange – would be a very happy mamma 🙂

Todd- way to go, to squeeze whatever you could from that trip!!! 🙂 great job!

  34. Patricia says:

You did great!! I dont´think we have to justified what or where or how long takes us to shop!! the most iportannt thing if is what works for you and your love ones!! so be it :)!! and if you are a honest couponer, of course :)!!

wish NJ would do that but not holding my breath 😉

    again GREAT JOB!!

  35. Marleen says:

Great job! I wish they had more triple coupon events here in Westchester…

  36. debbie drury says:

Why do so many people have to be so negative? He made a good deal. Leave it at that. Go do your own thing and leave everyone else alone. If you have a problem with it just shake your head and mutter under your breath. For goodness sakes. Be happy when someone gets a good deal!

    1. Jen says:

      LIKE!!!!!!

  37. Tina C. says:

Some people are negative because they are jealous…like me….MAN! I WISH they would have unlimited triple coupons at the SR in DE i go to (and not the 3 literal coupons some stores allow from time to time). Guess its good they don’t…i think my family might have me committed when they see how off the charts happy i would become lol

  38. Love2Save! says:

Geez Todd! YOU DID GREAT! I am already planning my shopping trip with my friend, and save a little! 😀 Doylestown is close, and we like to go there , so it sounds double-great to us! Thanks so much for posting his trip Cindy! PS.Those, you left negative comments here, I think that they just got used to getting free stuff after stocked coupons, so spending some money on gas makes them feel not saving anything, BUT, like Cindy said, if you go with one or two friends and split the cost (toll is 1,25 or $1 for entering PA-haha, I have never paid for entering back to NJ :)) it’s sounds like a great shopping trip to be! For me it’s 25$gas and $1-1,25 for toll…not bad!!! THANKS TODD for your trip! You did great! :)))

  39. Donna says:

    Great job!
I must say you have me tempted. I live not too far from there, and my boyfriend actually work even closer to Warminster. I was tempted to put a trip together for either him or us, but was afraid that I would do the drive to find nothing available.
