We’ve put together your meal plan for the week keeping your costs for all five meals at just under $30. Most of these recipes work for a family of 4 making them as low as $1.50 per serving.
You might find that you already have some of the items listed on the shopping list in your stock pile so your out of pocket cost will be even less!

General Tso’s Chicken
with Rice, Grape Tomatoes and Baby Carrots
Total Cost: approximately $5.73
Ingredients you will need for this recipe:
- Chili garlic sauce – 2 tablespoons
- Sugar – 2 tablespoons
- Rice vinegar – 1 tablespoon
- Flour – 1/4 cup
- Cornstarch – 2 tablespoons
- Egg white – 1
- Soy sauce – 1 tablespoon
- Boneless chicken thighs – 10 oz. *
- Vegetable oil – 2 tablespoons
- Broccoli florets – cut into bite-size pieces (about 3 cups)
- Scallions – bunch
*The original recipe calls for 10 oz of boneless chicken thighs, which seems low for a family of 4. We’ve upped the amount to 1 lb. on our shopping list.

with Tossed Salad and Crackers
Total Cost: approximately $4.91
Ingredients you will need for this recipe:
- Ground beef – 1 lb.
- Onion – 1 medium
- Hamburger Helper lasagna
- Whole tomatoes – 14.5 oz can
- Frozen corn – 1 cup
- Parmesan cheese – 2 tablespoons
- Zucchini – 1 small
- Additional grated Parmesan cheese, if desired

- Red bell pepper – 1
- Fresh red chili pepper – 1 – 2 teaspoons finely chopped
