PayPal MasterCard ECB Deal at CVSPayPal MasterCard ECB Deal at CVS

There is a HOT deal this week at CVS on a PayPal Reloadable Debit MasterCard.  The deal is Buy (1) $150 PayPal Prepaid Debit MasterCard and get a $50 ECB (limit 1 offer).  This has a $4.95 activation fee.  These are a regular Debit MasterCard that will come with $150 loaded onto it to use as you would any other prepaid debit card.  The card also allows you to link it to your paypal account.  You can find more out about the Reloadable PayPal Prepaid MasterCard here.

Like any other Gift Card deal, this becomes a big moneymaker after you pay for the activation fee.  Take $150 you have budgeted for other items like gas, car insurance, groceries and more, use it to buy the PayPal card, pay the activation fee and get $50 back in ExtraBucks Rewards making this a $45 money maker.  Woot!

Note:  Please be sure to check the MyWeeklyAd on the CVS site to be certain this deal is available in your area.

Update:

Once you purchase your card, you will have to use the card and bring it to a zero balance and close the card or the card will be charged another $4.95 fee from PayPal.  This fee is a monthly fee that will only be charged if there is a balance on the account.  To avoid the extra fee, use your card at any store to buy a gift card or buy a smaller amount and you can withdraw cash. You should select “DEBIT” on the keypad and enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN) to get cash back.

There are conflicting reports on when you are actually charged that additional monthly fee.  I’ve heard within 30 days and some of you have even said as quickly as 12 hours or 36 hours but I can’t confirm either one yet. Be sure to read the details on the paper that comes with the card as well as checking out the PayPal Prepaid site.

Best bet is to buy your card, register it, use it to buy gift cards at any store you shop at often, then close the card.

Update 11/25:

Most of you are reporting that Paypal is deducting another $4.95 within hours of purchasing the card making your balance $145.05.  Please keep this in mind when doing this deal and using your card to make an additional purchase.  The best bet is to do the following:

  1. Buy the $150 PayPal at CVS, pay $154.95, get your $50 ECB
  2. Register your card…you can do it right on your phone.
  3. If the additional $4.95 has already been deducted, use your PayPal Card to buy a $100 gift card for a store you shop at often.  When making your purchase, withdraw $45 cash.
  4. If the $4.95 monthly fee has not been deducted yet, then buy a $150 gift card but be sure to check your balance right before you check out to be sure you have enough on there to cover the purchase.
  5. Cancel your PayPal Card.
  6. Your profit is still $40 after the ECB even if the additional $4.95 has been deducted from your card before you can use it.

Here is how the deal looks:
