No grocery shopping for me today. Instead we organized my stockpile. Or, I should say, my daughter Megan did most of the organizing while I was finishing up the ShopRite match ups. I think she did a mighty fine job!
If you had a chance to take a peek at my stockpiling video, you would remember that my stockpile used to look like this:
Not so bad I know, but those plastic shelves did not hold up too well. They started looking like the Leaning Tower of Pisa and we were afraid that one day we would walk in to find everything on the floor. So, we cleaned out the rest of the room, which is actually a room off my garage, and made more room for some better shelves.
The awesome thing is, I had so much extra money in my grocery budget over the last couple of months that I was able to take that money and put it toward some nice shelves that we picked up at Home Depot. The shelves were priced at around $65 each and are very sturdy.
And, while cleaning out the stockpile, I was able to find even more items to place in my Couponing for a Cause box. I highly recommend going through your stockpile every month and pulling items that you know you will not use up before it expires and donating it to food pantries, friends, neighbors or relatives that can make good use of them.
Now, next on my list to save up for, a new freezer!
